CLEARWATER, FL – The Clearwater Threshers (75-48, 31-27) racked up eight hits but fell 6-1 to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (65-69, 31-27) on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers look to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon in their final home game of the regular season

Emaarion Boyd beat out an infield hit in the bottom of the first inning. He stole second base and advanced to third on a groundout. Zach Arnold hit a single off Fort Myers starter Jose Olivares that plated Boyd and gave the Threshers an early 1-0 lead. Fort Myers took the lead with two runs in the third to make it 2-1.

A three-run home run by Mighty Mussels’ first baseman Nate Baez extended their lead to 5-1 in the seventh. Another run scored in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly that made it 6-1 Fort Myers. The Threshers got one baserunner aboard in the ninth but couldn’t bring him home as they fell for the eighth-straight game in a 6-1 defeat.

Estibenzon Jiménez (3-8) allowed two runs on six hits in 5.0 innings with two walks and six strikeouts and took the loss. Nathan Karaffa surrendered three unearned runs in 2.0 innings of work on four hits with two strikeouts. Saul Teran let up one run on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts in the final 2.0 frames.
