Lynchburg Evens Series

*LYNCHBURG, VA: *The Delmarva Shorebirds (21-28) fell in a low-scoring affair on Wednesday night to the Lynchburg Hillcats (28-22) by a score of 2-1.

The Hillcats took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first inning as Angel Genao belted a homer over the left field wall to make it 1-0 Lynchburg.

Delmarva would quickly comeback and tie the game in the top of the second inning on a two-out, RBI single by Angel Tejada as Jalen Vasquez scored from second on a close play at home to even the game at one.

In the fourth, Lynchburg would reclaim the lead on an RBI single by Manuel Mejias after Jose Devers led off the inning with a triple, giving the Hillcats the advantage back at 2-1.

The Shorebirds would get some excellent pitching from their bullpen on Wednesday as Adam Stauffer threw a scoreless inning on Minor League Rehab Assignment, Ty Weatherly tossed two scoreless frames with two strikeouts, and Blake Money retired the side in order in the eighth to keep Delmarva within a run.

But ultimately, the Hillcats would prevent any comeback effort from the Shorebirds and Delmarva would fall in game two of the series 2-1.

Both starting pitchers would factor into the final decision as Alonzo Richardson (6-7) earned the win for Lynchburg with Deivy Cruz (8-4) suffering the loss for Delmarva. Tomas Reyes (10) was rewarded with the save.

Delmarva will look to retake the series lead on Thursday night as Juan De Los Santos gets the start for the Shorebirds versus Jackson Humphries for the Hillcats. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
