Horvath Homers in Delmarva Victory

LYNCHBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (22-29) held off a late rally from the Lynchburg Hillcats (29-23) on Friday night as they evened the series with a 4-3 win.

Mac Horvath powered the Shorebirds to the first lead of the game in the third inning as he belted a solo home run over the wall in left field to give Delmarva a 1-0 edge.

The Hillcats would tie the game in the bottom half of the frame on a two-out, RBI double by Wuilfredo Antunez, evening the game at one apiece.

However, Delmarva would retake the lead in the fourth thanks to Cole Urman who picked up his first Single-A RBI with a base hit back up the middle, scoring Matthew Etzel from third to make it 2-1 Shorebirds.

With the game still 2-1 in the seventh, the Shorebirds would up their lead thanks to a sacrifice fly by Enrique Bradfield Jr. that scored Randy Florentino. Mac Horvath then plated Adam Crampton with an RBI double to give Delmarva their largest advantage of the game at 4-1.

The Shorebirds bullpen caught fire in the middle innings as Carter Baulmer, Jack Maruskin, and Braxton Bragg combined to retire 16 in a row from the third inning into the ninth to help hold the lead in place. But things would get interesting in the ninth as the Hillcats loaded the bases with one out. They'd register a pair of runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly CJ Kayfus to make it a 4-3 game. With the tying run at third, Braxton Bragg would dig deep and strike out Robert Lopez to end the game, preserving a 4-3 win for the Shorebirds.

Carter Baulmer (1-0) earned the win in his first appearance with the Shorebirds this season with Braxton Bragg (1) earning a six-out save in his first professional outing. Lynchburg starting pitcher, Austin Peterson (6-7) was saddled with the loss.

Delmarva will now look to take the series lead on Saturday night as Luis De Leon gets the start against Abel Brito for the Hillcats. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
