BILOXI, Miss. (June 1, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, dropped both games of a doubleheader Thursday night against the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park.
The BayBears erased an early deficit after falling behind in the first inning. Andrew Daniel drove in a run with a two-out double in the second to tie the game.
However, Mauricio Dubón put Biloxi on top for good in the bottom of the frame. With the bases loaded and two outs, Dubon cleared the bags with a double and scored on Michael Choice's two-bagger. Both teams went scoreless through the final five frames, and the Shuckers won 5-1.
Angel Ventura (2-4) tossed a season-high 6 1/3 innings and allowing just one run on four hits in the victory. Grayson Long (3-3) took the loss for Mobile, giving up a season-high five runs on six hits in five innings.
Mobile's pitching staff carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning but ended up falling 2-1.
In his first career start, Conor Lillis-White pitched three scoreless innings for the BayBears (24-29). Lillis-White struck out a season-high five batters and issued two walks prior to a two-hour, 20-minute rain delay.
Following the delay, Justin Anderson retired all six batters in relief. Alberto Triunfel provided a run of support with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth.
However, with two outs in the sixth, the Shuckers (28-25) got their first hit when Michael Reed singled off Ivan Hernandez (2-1). Blake Allemand followed with a game-tying double, and he scored the go-ahead run on Michael Choice's single to right field.
Mobile was held hitless by Corbin Burnes in his Double-A debut with Biloxi. He faced the minimum 11 batters through 3 2/3 innings, allowing one walk but quickly erasing the runner with a pickoff. Burnes struck out four batters before the game was delayed with two outs in the fourth.
