On June 7th, in his seventh game with the Sea Dogs after being called up from High-A Greenville, Red Sox #1 prospect Marcelo Mayer slugged his first Double-A home run...a 438-foot bomb that landed on the 25-yard line at Fitzpatrick Stadium. Despite Mayer's 2-for-4 performance the Sea Dogs fell 9-6 to the Akron RubberDucks.

9. Tyler Dearden's Walk-Off Home Run

On July 21st the Sea Dogs headed to the ninth inning with a 6-2 lead over the Fisher Cats, but the Fisher Cats bounced back to tie the game and had the bases loaded with one out with the game was suspended due to rain. When the game resumed on July 22nd, Ryan Miller entered the game and struck out the first two batters he faced to end the threat. Tyler Dearden then needed just two pitches in the bottom of the ninth to end the game with a walk-off home run delivering a 7-6 Sea Dogs victory.

8. Trevor Story Home Run

On July 21 (yes, the same game as Tyler Dearden's heroics), Trevor Story played in the first of three rehab games with the Portland Sea Dogs. In the fifth inning, he blasted a three-run homer to extend Portland's lead to 6-0 over the Fisher Cats and get Red Sox Nation excited about his return.

7. Sea Dogs Radio Broadcasters Make History

When the Sea Dogs opened the 2023 season on April 6, history was made in the broadcast booth. Rylee Pay joined Emma Tiedemann in the booth forming just the second all-female radio booth in professional baseball history.

6. Stephen Scott's Birthday Celebration

On May 24th, Stephen Scott celebrated his 26th birthday in style by swatting two home runs including a walk-off three-run homer to give the Sea Dogs a 6-4 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Full Game Recap

5. Sea Dogs score a franchise record 24 runs

The Sea Dogs ended the the 2023 season with a bang scoring a franchise record 24 runs in the season finale for a 24-2 win over the Hartford Yards Goats. The 22-run margin of victory was also the largest in franchise history while the Sea Dogs recorded a franchise record 24 RBI. Tyler Esplin also tied a franchise record with seven RBI. Game Recap

4. CJ Liu No-Hitter

On May 5th, exactly one year from when Brayan Bello threw the first complete game seven-inning no-hitter in franchise history, CJ Liu completed the feat no-hitting the Binghamton Mets in Game 1 of a doubleheader in Binghamton, New York. Liu fired seven shutout innings with six strikeouts leading the Sea Dogs to an 8-0 win. Game Recap

3. Gonzalez dominates in Sea Dogs second no-hitter of 2023

In his second Double-A start on July 23rd Wikelman Gonzalez dominated firing the first six innings of a combined no-hitter with Brendan Cellucci and Luis Guerrero. It was the second no-hitter of the season for the Sea Dogs and seventh in franchise history. Gonzalez, the Red Sox #11 prospect struck out ten batters in six scoreless innings as the Sea Dogs defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-2 at Hadlock Field. Game Recap

2. Ceddanne Rafaela steals six bases in one game

On May 13th Ceddanne Rafaela could not be stopped on the base paths as he stole a franchise record six bases and the Sea Dogs swiped nine as a team...also a franchise record. Rafaela's feat was one shy of the Minor League Baseball record of seven set by 18-year-old Ricky Henderson in 1977. Game Recap

1. Slugger inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame

Every dog has their day and Slugger got his. On August 12th, he was officially inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame becoming the first minor league sports mascot selected for enshrinement.

Honorable Mention- Sea Dogs welcome 11 Millionth Fan

On August 29th the Sea Dogs welcomed their 11 millionth fan in franchise history...seven-year-old William Cashman from Freeport. The 2023 season was a fantastic year for the Sea Dogs as the team welcomed 403,957 fans an average of 6,121 fans per game, the most since 2009, and recorded 19 sellouts, the most since 2008.
