Title: Group Sales Intern

Organization: Toledo Mud Hens Baseball Club & Toledo Walleye Hockey Club

Department: Ticket Sales

Reports to: Group Sales Department

The Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye are seeking a dynamic, self-starter who would be responsible for actively selling group tickets. Working for both organizations will give you a unique opportunity to build a close relationship with the Director of Ticket Sales and Sales Representatives within the organization. Team members will have the opportunity to build relationships with current and potential clientele.

All members of the Ticket Sales staff are properly trained by senior reps, managers, and outside sources to help employee succeed.

Functions:

Assist Group Sales team with reserving affinity groups for both Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye games including but not limited to:

  • BSA Groups
  • Girl Scouts
  • Non-Profit Organizations
  • Senior Day Groups
  • School Education Days
  • Summer Camp Days
  • Youth Sports Teams

Tasks will include:

  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with all group contacts through assisting with renewals and servicing accounts.
  • Works with the group sales department to cultivate new sales leads and maximize revenue.
  • Follows up regularly with group leaders to assist with their questions and to confirm final reservation.
  • Finalize Group reservations, sends invoices and place tickets for booked groups.
  • Communicate with group leaders to ensure fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
  • Interact with other staff members to help ensure a positive and successful season.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Characteristics/Qualifications:

  • A Group Sales Intern should be self-motivated.
  • It is necessary to have good people, planning and organizational skills.
  • There is daily interaction with current and potential clients.
  • He/she should be creative, driven and possess the ability to work with others and accept various tasks.
  • This individual would be open to feedback provided by directors and peers and displays a coachable attitude.
  • He/she must display Strong customer service, communication, time management and organizational skills.

Role Summary:

The Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye is accepting applications for a character performer (mascot). This role works within the promotions, game presentation, and operation departments and portrays specific costumed character roles at Mud Hens games, Walleye games, Toledo sporting events and other appearances in the greater Northwest Ohio communities. This role creates memorable experiences by interacting with fans, dancing, and “clowning around” to bring joy and happiness to our fans and the community. This role works a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform at all home games for the Toledo Walleye or Toledo Mud Hens, as well as community and team appearances scheduled by the supervisor. This includes but is not limited to sponsors, charities, media and private functions.
  • Represent a Nationally recognized brand and organization, while portraying a positive image in the community/media.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining all mascot equipment including props and costumes.
  • Read social cues to understand the level of engagement each fan may want.
  • Preserve the identity of the mascot and follow an established character playbook including mannerisms, body language, attitude, fan interaction and team representation at all times.
  • Assist in the research, creating, and implementing mascot skits, dances, on-field games, music, theme night elements and other forms of mascot related entertainment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • College student preferred pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business, Marketing, Hospitality, Musical Theater, Theater Arts, Dance or other related field.
  • Previous mascot experience and skating experience are preferred, but not required.
  • Must be friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret common social expressions.
  • Ability to execute a number of tasks at the same time and working well under pressure
  • Ability to carry out detailed written/oral/diagram form instructions.
  • Strong communications skills and ability to present self in a professional manner to interact with fans of all ages, sponsors, guests, players.
  • Energetic and outgoing personality
  • Energetic attitude towards coworkers and fans.
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Approaches and engages the community in a professional and friendly manner.

Working Environment / Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lifting promotional items and props needed, weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Constantly carrying the weight of the uniform, either wearing the costume or carrying the costume to events, up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, etc. for the duration of the shift.
  • Game days will be outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
  • Constantly performing in restrictive outfits with impaired vision.

The current Hens and Walleye leadership team all started as college interns in the early 90’s and now lead one of the most successful sports and entertainment organizations in the industry.

Part time, seasonal and even year-round hours are flexible to support the demand of your college studies. Some local college and university students work for the Hens, Walleye and Hensville year-round and for all four or five years at school.

NOW HIRING SERVERS AND BARTENDERS

Join the team at Holy Toledo! Tavern or Fleetwood's Tap Room. Located in the Hensville entertainment district, these restaurants provide excellent opportunities for qualified individuals looking to gain experience in a fast paced and exciting work environment.

Under the general supervision of the General Manager, servers provide positively outrageous guest service to patrons at the restaurants at all times. They will assist with opening, inventory management, responsible for taking and fulfilling guest orders and cleanup at closing. As one of the front-line guest service employees, servers and bartenders must be professional, helpful, and enthusiastic to excel at this job.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurate and quick service for all guests
  • Ensure that the guest's menu is properly served at the designated time
  • Follow policies and procedures set forth by PCS, as well as, guidelines set by the Health Department
